60 Years Ago Our Church Was Hit During The War
This year marks This year marks the anniversary of the times when our Parish Church was badly hit with bombs during the war in the air raid of the 7th April 1942 and was again hit badly on the front part of the church on Sunday 19th April 1942 during the morning hours extensive damage was caused especially to the church organ and the statue on Madonna Tar Rusarju.the
Parish Church TRINITA MQADDSA
The development of works on the harbours side led to many houses being built and to the development of the first streets. The people who lived in the area needed the spiritual service. The only church that was closely was the small one dedicated to Graceful Mary, called Ta Cejlu. The church which became the first parish church was given to the Kapuccini.
The church, built in Xatt il Qwabar, was dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The church was designed by the architect Gann Dumink Debono while the work was trusted to Mikiel Mifsud. The first stone was blessed and placed by the W.R. Dun Manwel Vassallo, on 20th October 1909.

More About Our Church
The church is built on columns made of gray marble, which was brought from Trapani. Its style is variable, and is simple, classic, and reminds us of Renaissance churches.
It has a length of 175 feet, the width from side to the other is 85 feet, and from a column to the other is 20 feet. By 6th April 1910, that is 6 months later, the arches in the rear side were already finished. An oratory and a convent were built with the church.
By 25 May 1912, the church was completed, the right clock was already placed. and four bells arrived from the manufacturer Brigozzi of Milan. The bishop's wish was that the church would remain as a monument that reminds us of the International Eucharist Congress of 1913. In 12th April 1914 he declared Marsa as separate from Hamrun, Rahal Gdid, and Hal Qormi.
The Birth Of Our Parish Holy Trinity
The church of the Holy Trinity became the parish church, while Patri Piju from Gozo became the first Parish priest. In 19th April 1913, the church was inaugurated, blessed, and opened for the public.
Early that morning, the Vicar Mons. Lwigi Attard, blessed the water in front of the church, sang the Aspereges Me, and started to walk with the religious people who sang and blessed the church first from the outside then from the inside.
When the blessing finished the litany of Saints started. After this the vicar himself did the first mass. The church was decorated with many beautiful works. The titular painting of the Holy Trinity is the work of Lazzaro Pisani.
Those of the lateral altars were created as follows: Lazzaro Pisani painted those of the Madonna tal-Karmnu and of the Tluq ta San Pawl from Malta. Ganni Vella painted those of the Madonna tad-Duluri and of tar-Ruzarju and San Antnin ta Padova in the Oratory.
He also painted the four paintings of the choir that represent the Holy Scripture. The paintings of S. Lawrenz and S. Frangisk were Ducas, but their place was taken by one of St. Lawrenz, a work of Fr. Fawstin, and the other of S. Frangisk by Guzeppi Caruana.

Church Organ
The church got its first organ in 1921. it was a work of Inzoli. It was destroyed in 1942 by a bomb. Another organ was brought after the war in 18 December 1949. A particular attraction in this church is the mosaic that had been made by the Vatican School.
In the middle of the ceiling there is a painting of the Holy Son and the Holy Spirit. This work was inaugurated in 9th June 1957. With the help of the people, the Tabernacle of Jesus was made in 1960. It was made by them manufacturer Frans Sammut on a design by Antonio Agius and models by Joseph Galea.
Church Statues
In the church there are numerous statues. The statue of San Frangisk was made by Wistin Camilleri. There is the statue of Madona tad-Duluri, which is a work by Lecce. The statuary group of San Guzepp Haddiem was made in 19th March 1960. and this was designed upon a plan approved by the Parish Priest. In 17th September 1968, some work took place in a part of the church where the ceiling was in a bad condition. The iron beams had deteriorated so they had to be replaced.
The Kapuccini Convent
As the church was left in the hands of the Kapuccini, the benefactors sought to build them a convent by which they could meet their requirements. In 15 September 1910 the first stone was placed. Under the stone there is a piece of parchment that says as follows: L-ewwel gebla ta dan il-kunvent mibni flimkien mal-knisja, bi spejjez tas-sinjuri mizzewgin Lorenzo u Karmela Balbi fi zmien il- Papa Piju X, Mons. Pietru Pace. Isqof tad-Djocesi, Patri Piju, minn Ghawdex, Provincjal, u Mikiel Mifsud, mghallem tal-bini. The plan was also made by the architect Gann Dumnik Debono. With the parchment a medal having an image of the Holy Trinity was placed. The work on the convent was finished at the same time the work on the church was finished so it was blessed and used at the same time.
